Car A/C Repair & Recharge in Fort Lauderdale & Oakland Park

Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires repairs car air conditioning on European, exotic and EV models at two Broward shops, in Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale. We find the leak or failed part before recharging, service both R1234yf and R134a systems to the factory charge weight, and send photos and a written estimate first. Open 7 days, 8 AM – 7 PM.

A/C problems drivers notice

  • Warm or cool air instead of cold, especially on a hot afternoon in traffic
  • Cold on one side, warm on the other, often a blend door actuator or low charge on dual-zone systems
  • A/C cuts in and out, or the compressor clicks on and off quickly
  • Water on the passenger floor, usually a blocked evaporator drain
  • A musty or sour smell when you first turn the fan on
  • Fan works only on high, or not at all, from a failed blower motor or final stage resistor
  • Hissing or rattling from the dash or engine bay when the A/C runs

How we diagnose car A/C

  1. Performance check. We measure vent temperature and record high and low side pressures at idle and at higher RPM.
  2. Scan the climate module. Many European systems run a variable compressor controlled by software. We read faults and live data from the climate control and engine modules.
  3. Find the leak. A vacuum test shows whether the system holds. UV dye and an electronic leak detector find the exact point: condenser, evaporator, hose crimp or compressor seal.
  4. Photos and a written estimate. You see the leak or failed part before any repair.
  5. Repair and recharge. We replace the failed parts, install a new receiver-drier or desiccant where needed, and recharge to the exact factory weight.

Brand-specific A/C notes

  • BMW: Condensers sit at the front and take hits from road debris. Electric fan failures cause warm air at idle and overheating at the same time.
  • Mercedes-Benz: Rear climate units on GL, GLS and Sprinter vans add more lines and more leak points. Blend door actuators are common on older models.
  • Audi and VW: The variable compressor control valve can fail and leave the system warm with a full charge.
  • Land Rover and Range Rover: Front condenser and line leaks are common, and rear A/C lines on long-wheelbase models can corrode.
  • Porsche: 911 and Boxster models run condensers in the front corners, where leaves and dirt collect and rot the fins.
  • Exotics: Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren systems are compact and tightly packaged, so we take care removing body panels to reach parts.

Why South Florida is hard on A/C

Here the A/C runs most of the year, not a few summer months. Heat pushes system pressures higher, which strains compressors and seals. Salt air near the beach and A1A corrodes aluminum condensers from the outside in. Humidity loads the evaporator with water, which grows mold if the drain clogs. Traffic on I-95 and Oakland Park Blvd gives the condenser little airflow just when the cabin needs the most cooling.

What to expect on your visit

  • Walk in at either shop, or book ahead in the morning before the day heats up.
  • A/C performance check and leak test by an ASE-certified, factory-trained technician.
  • Photos and a written estimate, with the leak source and the parts needed.
  • Repair with OEM or OE-equivalent parts, a recharge to factory weight and a final vent temperature check.
  • 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty on the repair.

A/C problems can come from the cooling system too. If your temperature gauge also climbs in traffic, read about our coolant leak repair. Spanish speakers can visit our A/C page in Spanish.

Questions drivers ask

Frequently asked questions

Why does my A/C blow cold only when driving?
Usually the condenser is not getting enough airflow at idle. A failed electric cooling fan, a blocked condenser or a slightly low charge are the common causes. We test fan operation and pressures at idle and at speed.
My car uses R1234yf. Can you service it?
Yes. Both shops can evacuate, leak test and recharge R1234yf and R134a systems to the exact factory charge weight. Most European cars built in recent years use R1234yf.
Is a recharge enough to fix my A/C?
Rarely for long. If the system is low, refrigerant is leaking out somewhere. We vacuum test and use UV dye to find the leak first, so you are not paying to recharge a system that will be warm again in a few weeks.
Do you fix the musty smell from the vents?
Yes. We replace the cabin filter, clean and treat the evaporator, and check that the drain is clear so water does not sit in the case.
Do you repair A/C on Teslas and other EVs?
Yes. Tesla, Rivian and Lucid cooling systems also cool the battery, so we diagnose the heat pump or A/C loop with care for the high-voltage parts.
