Engine symptoms drivers notice
- Burning oil smell after a drive, or smoke from under the hood at a light
- Oil spots on the driveway or garage floor
- Rattle at cold start that fades after a few seconds, a common timing chain warning
- Misfire, rough idle or shaking, often with a flashing check engine light
- Loss of power or a whistle under boost on turbocharged engines
- Blue smoke from the exhaust, or oil use between changes
- Rising temperature gauge in traffic or on hot afternoons
How we diagnose engine problems
- Scan and live data. We use BMW ISTA, Mercedes XENTRY and other factory-level tools to read misfire counts, cam timing deviation, boost and fuel trims.
- Mechanical tests. Compression and leak-down tests show the health of rings, valves and head gaskets. A borescope lets us look inside cylinders without taking the engine apart.
- Leak tracing. We clean the area, add UV dye to the oil if needed, and find the exact source of a leak.
- Smoke and boost testing. A smoke machine finds vacuum and charge pipe leaks that cause lean codes and low power.
- Photos and a written estimate. You see the problem before you approve the repair.
Common engine repairs by brand
BMW and MINI
Valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets on N20, N52, N55, B48 and B58 engines. Timing chain guides on N20 and N47 engines. VANOS solenoids, charge pipes and high-pressure fuel pumps. Oil leaks onto the belt can damage the crank seal, so we fix them early.
Mercedes-Benz and AMG
Camshaft adjuster magnets, timing chains and balance shafts on older V6 engines, breather hoses on M274 engines, and oil cooler seals on M276 V6 engines. We also repair AMG M177 and M178 twin-turbo V8 leaks and diesel issues on Sprinter vans.
Audi and VW
Timing chain tensioners on EA888 2.0T engines, PCV valves, oil consumption checks and carbon build-up on intake valves of direct-injection engines. We also repair 3.0T supercharged and twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines.
Porsche
Air-oil separators, coolant pipe leaks, spark plugs and coils on Cayenne, Macan and 911 engines. We also inspect older Boxster and 911 models for IMS bearing concerns.
Land Rover and Range Rover
Ingenium timing chain stretch, supercharged V8 timing guides and water pumps, and oil cooler leaks.
Exotics
Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren V8, V10 and V12 engines need careful leak tracing because heat shields and tight packaging hide the source. We plan the job and photograph each step.
Why South Florida heat matters for engines
Heat ages gaskets, seals and plastic parts faster. An engine that idles in traffic on I-95 or US-1 runs hot with little airflow, which bakes oil and stresses cooling parts. Short trips around Las Olas and Wilton Manors never let the oil fully warm up, so moisture and fuel stay in it and wear timing chains. Fresh oil at the right interval and quick action on small leaks prevent most large engine repairs we see.
What to expect on your visit
Walk in at either shop or book ahead. Your technician scans, tests and photographs the engine, then sends a written estimate that separates urgent repairs from items that can wait. We start work only after your approval, use OEM or OE-equivalent parts, and back the repair with our 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty.
