How Florida heat affects a Jaguar
Jaguar’s supercharged engines run hot by design. The supercharger sits in the valley of the V6 and V8, right above the coolant pipes and thermostat housing. Add a Broward summer and a crawl down US-1 at rush hour, and those plastic and rubber parts harden faster. A small seep can turn into a low coolant warning in a few weeks, so we check the cooling system on every visit.
Electronics are the other weak point in heat and humidity. A tired battery on an F-PACE or XF can set off a string of warnings, from parking brake faults to a blank touchscreen. We test the battery and charging system first, which often solves several complaints at once.
The F-TYPE has its own needs. Its active exhaust valves, low-profile tires and big brakes all work hard on short, quick drives along A1A. We look at tire wear, brake pad thickness and exhaust valve operation whenever an F-TYPE comes in.
Signs your Jaguar needs a visit
- A low coolant warning or a sweet smell after a drive.
- A rattle from the front of the engine at idle.
- Several warnings at once, or a screen that freezes or reboots.
- A rear corner of an XJ sitting low after parking.
